Bean aphid â Dark green to black, bean aphids have white appendages. eggplant, bean, cabbage, tomato and broccoli. Be sure to check both sides of all your leaves! Prevent them with floating row covers. These larvae tunnel into leaf petioles and stems. You can tell the difference between this disease and powdery mildew because septoria leaf spots typically have brown borders and powdery mildew spots are solid white. When checking your plants for infestations, look for: Misshapen or discolored leaves and stems. Plant bean seeds 1 inch deep and 2 to 4 inches apart.
